While you can't ski and surf in the same day in Santa Barbara, there are days when these thoughts do cross my mind. After spotting snow in the hills Friday midday, I found my window of opportunity to make a mad dash up Cold Springs trail. Two weeks ago I returned home with a tic on my head from this very location, but I pushed fears of Lyme disease away and hit the trail at 4 pm. I had my headlamp with me just in case I made it all the way to Camino Cielo and had to return home in the dark. As I approached the Eucalyptus tree, I got my first clear glimpse of snow still 1000' feet above me, and well to the West. The thought of running in the dark suddenly felt like a bad idea. Today the ephemeral flakes would be only reached by my point and shoot.

ReplyDeletewhat up! damn brother! nice six pack! you think snow on Camino Cielo is bad, you should try rapid dogs on a reverse guapulo at 10,000 ft, or better yet, raging waters on the famous penedes three river! With regards to the latter, I wish you were here and will go out hit it extra hard today just for you.

I got a tick about three weeks ago on Jesusita. Never had a tick here in SB before. It stung like a beesting, unlike any tick bite I'd had before.
