Passing trees as if they were standing still

"Don't you think it's a bit early to put that thing together?"  This was my wife's concern as a ripped open the enormous cardboard box in early October.  I was the proud owner of a Baby Jogger doublewide, red road racer.  The twins (apparently I'm never supposed to refer to them as such) were still weeks from seeing the light of day.  I wanted to be ready.  Sure, we had the mountain of diapers from Costco, the changes of clothes for everyday until the age of 3, and high powered, hospital grade breast pump, but what about transportation?  How was I going to get them down the bike path to Goleta Beach??  How would I join my fellow Nitegroovers on Wednesday evenings? The short answer was, I wasn't!  At least not for a while.  Apparently my young ones-Lila and Natalie-who are now almost 4 months, do not yet have the core strength to endure a ten-miler.   I supposed I knew this.  I went through the same denial when my daughter Sofia, now almost 11, was born.  Two more months...sometime in April, I hope to be seen gliding effortlessly by, pushing the little ones down the boardwalk in their shiny red racer.  Until then, I will run when I can.  I wonder if I swap out the tires, could I push the kiddos up Jesusita, at least to the first switchbacks?
