Ultra Running Capital of the...Central Coast?

Santa Barbara has more down and dirty, up and down, trip and fall trail races on the calendar than ever before. While April's Tough Enough doesn't offer up much dirty, it's got plenty of everything else.  I'm looking forward to meeting all of the solo entrants.  However, even with ten or so more soloists than last year, I'm anticipating many long lonely stretches of asphalt.   Coyote Two-Moon was held last weekend.  I'm still waiting to see results.  A handful of local runners tested their mettle on the Ojai firetrails-super tough Patty Bryant and Ken Hughes among others.  What's new besides 9-Trails you might ask?  How about the DRTE 100 miler in October with more climbing than Hardrock??!!  Too long?  How about the Blue Canyon Ultra-a 50k, 50 mile, or 100k option in early June?  These are two of the new events being offered up this year to hearty souls looking for panoramic pain and suffering.  Is this an adequate amount of events for Santa Barbara county?  Perhaps.  Is there something for you and all of your friends?  Well, this all depends on the company you keep.  While undulating trails with long flat stretches are rare in Santa Barbara, challenging trails and scenic beauty are abundant.
